Review: As with all this series, author Walker builds her story with a historical setting of dynamic and volatile events. She excels in digging deep into history, extracting and making clear events most layman are not familiar with. In this, she endears me to her stories, for not only are they exciting, adrenalin-producing ones, but rich in historical intrigue. I come out of reading them more knowledgeable.
Among fictitious characters, she intertwines real historical ones, breathing life once again into who they were. Walker digs deep into the historical machinations, providing a slightly different aspect of history, coupling it with an evolving relationship between friends which will satisfy every fiber of your tendre for a love story.
Zoé worked with her uncle to help those people whose heads were targeted for the guillotine. She is a passionate woman who started down this path because her betrothed, very much involved in the resistance to the new Republic of France, had it as his dying wish. With that in mind, she pursued this path with little care for her own safety.
Unbeknownst to her was the protective streak Freddie had for her. He had loved her when she was young; they were friends, at least that was what Zoé thought. But Freddie’s heart yearned for so much more. Where she went on the mission to save lives, he followed. One day Zoé would be his wife. He just had to keep her alive until then.
Zoé worried about her friend. He didn’t have the skill to be in battle. On a mission he took a bullet and Zoé realized how much he meant to her. But little did she know of Freddie. He was very able to take care of himself as you will discover within the pages of this story.
This is a series for someone who likes action, adventure, history and a good old-fashion love story.
