Praise for A Lady’s Code of Misconduct:

“Political intrigue and conspiracies abound in Duran’s engrossing fifth Rules for the Reckless Victorian romance (after Luck Be a Lady), which boasts plot twists galore…Duran is at the pinnacle of her craft as she weaves together humor, forgiveness, and love in a flawlessly executed plot. Jane, Crispin, and the rest of the characters are all well drawn, and the love scenes strike the perfect balance of steamy and sweet. Each layer in the story is suspenseful and delightful, making this the best installment so far.” Publishers Weekly STARRED REVIEW

“A sham marriage, political intrigue, and a case of amnesia provide a backdrop for this absorbing Victorian romance. Although Duran (Luck Be a Lady, 2015, etc.) has written a novel as layered as an onion, the characters are well-drawn and the plot flawlessly executed. Add in some very steamy sex, and the fifth installment of Duran’s Rules for the Reckless series can’t help but delight. This book weaves its spell so thoroughly that the most fortunate reader will be the one who has time to read the entire thing in one sitting. A masterful tale of suspense, forgiveness, and love.” Kirkus STARRED REVIEW

“Political intrigue drives a captivating historical romance…This Regency romance, part of the Rules for the Reckless series, is a smart love story, peopled with complex and absorbing characters.” BookPage, TOP PICK IN ROMANCE

About the Book:
USA TODAY  bestselling author Meredith Duran’s A LADY’S CODE OF MISCONDUCT is the fifth sizzling novel in the Rules for the Reckless series—a sexy and evocative Regency romance between a famous heiress and an infamous crime lord.

Trapped in the countryside, facing an unwanted marriage and the theft of her fortune, Jane Mason is done behaving nicely. To win her freedom, she’ll strike a deal with the most dangerous man she knows—a rising star in politics, whose dark good looks mask an even darker heart.

The bitter past has taught Crispin Burke to trust no one. He’ll gladly help a lovely young heiress, provided she pays a price. Yet when a single mistake shatters his life, it is Jane who holds the key to his salvation. And in a world that no longer makes sense, Crispin slowly realizes that she may be the only thing worth fighting for…

My Thoughts: Intense, riveting, painful and delightfully readable!

I haven’t read all of this series, but I’ve read enough that I knew I’d not be disappointed. When a story and writing style make me stop and reread certain thoughts, I’m on my way to being entrenched.  Here are some of the quotables:

A man cannot alter his very nature.

The machine of progress should not crush those most desperate for its boons.

Love does not last. Life steals it away.

Bravery can’t be purchased. … So where, then, should one look for it?

Throughout the story, Jane Mason is seeking out.  Out from the tyranny of an uncle who lives off of Jane’s inheritance.  Six years is a long time of cowering, denying the essence of who she is.  She needed to make them believe her docility, that she be beaten and totally manipulative.  But when cornered, the time right, she embarks on her escape.

Jane’s existence when her parents lived, made her an intelligent, wise and driven woman. Her mother, with her passionate charity work helped shape Jane.  Her father’s work in parliament and his sincere desire to see a better society for all, also greatly influenced Jane. Her life with her uncle has taught her the duplicity of man, political manuvering for gain of power, and an astute understanding of man’s hidden agenda.  She’s full of grit, determination and aspires to escape.  Her moment of decision comes, she takes it, and her journey to be truly free begins. But can she attain it?

Crispin Burke is her vehicle, albeit unbeknownst to him. He is a man who wants power and she freedom.  Both do whatever it takes to achieve their goals.

Jane has a hard time defining what freedom, however. Crispin and Jane both live by the motto, trust no one.  Will they be able to learn to trust each other? Survival may very well demand it.

“I won’t run away from this,” she said slowly. “That wasn’t what I dreamed of. That isn’t…freedom.”

“There are many degress of freedom.” His glance fell to the paper. “I expect one doesn’t realize that until all of them are stripped away.”

This is a story perfectly plotted, a page-turner in every respect, characters intensely real with challenges seemingly insurmountable. Duran uses hook after hook to pull you into this captivating read.  Her turn of phrase, often poetic in its imagery, makes a delightful, entertaining and emotional read. A highly recommended series with this particularly book being fantastic!

I am a lover of books, both reading and writing. 2018 marks the beginning of my own journey from writer to published author. This blog will showcase various authors' thoughts on the elements of novel crafting, and my attempts to find my voice in writing. While journaling this journey, I hope to encourage others to follow their dreams. Book reviews continue as I have the last four years, only making time for my new pursuits.

  7. Glenda says:

This is my first visit to your blog, Eileen…. I clicked on the link for Meredith’s giveaway (i’ll be honest) I mostly read historical romance in part because I am a bit of a history geek and also because I read to relax at the end of the day — and sometimes during the day. Escaping to the past it a better escape and form of relaxation than reading about contemporary problems.

  8. lsureader says:

This is the first time I’ve visited your blog. (I do enjoy Meredith’s books; I followed the blog tour here.) Historical romance is my favorite sub-genre of romance novels, whether they’re Regency or not. It offers a perfect combination of history and HEA. I’m looking forward to reading Meredith’s newest. Thanks for the post and giveaway.

  9. Welcome, Glenda! I understand about hoping to win a good book. I don’t blame you at all! You’ll be happy to know I read and review lots and lots of historical romance. I’m really partial to highland reads and love Medieval Historical Romance. I read a few contemporaries, but I’m right there with you about escaping into the past. Do you like time travel?

  10. HEA here I come! I enjoy reading a romance with suspense, danger, a strong heroine and an impossible hero! Thank you for stopping by. You have been entered.

  11. My review was already up at Amazon, Goodreads and Riffle before I read the blog tour takes.

I’m new too. I like that your review is sectioned into different parts (excerpts, thoughts, etc.) and does not just ramble on or just include a blurb lifted directly from the author.

  16. This particular blog is longer than usual since it is part of a blog tour. But generally I try to keep it simple leaving the reader with some idea as to why I thought the read is worthwhile. Thanks for dropping by. You are entered into the drawing.
