NOVEMBER: Featuring Multi-talented Author Diana Cosby

I’ve asked author Diana Cosby to share herself with us this month on my blog. Today, she’s here to talk about her passion for helping humanity and her idea of pairing the generosity of readers with building homes for those in need. Here’s a little about this grass-roots movement which has made many families safer with affordable homes. Diana’s romance reader challenge has reached over $5,000 through the generous donations of authors and readers. Won’t you consider this way of giving back?

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), founded in 1976, is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Today there are more than 2,100 active affiliates in 100 countries. Its mission is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world. Habitat invites and encourages people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Ms. Cosby volunteers with the Habitat For Humanity office in Grayson County, Texas.

Romance readers are AMAZING! And . . . so is Habitat for Humanity, a charity that I love supporting and volunteering for. So, I thought, why not pair the two and help a deserving family receive a home? And, the Diana Cosby’s Romance Reader’s Build A Habitat for Humanity Home Challenge was born.

I contacted the Habitat For Humanity office in Grayson County, Texas, where I’ve had the honor of helping with several builds and spoke with Laurie Mealy, Executive Director. She embraced the project, and was thrilled at the thought of pairing romance readers, who love stories where heroes and heroines overcome challenges to make their dreams come true, with making the dream of home ownership for a deserving family a reality.

How it works:

As readers and/or readers groups send contributions to Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County, the bookshelf posted on the upper left side of their website ( will fill in with every donation in $100 increments. The goal is to fund an entire home – $55,000. Donations can be sent via PayPal using the Donate link in the menu bar on Grayson County’s Habitat For Humanity’s website, or donate funds by mailing a check or money order to:

Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County
901 N. Grand Avenue
P.O. Box 2725
Sherman, TX 75091

I kicked off the challenge by donating $200. I challenge romance readers and readers groups to challenge each other with donations. I have total faith that romance readers together are an unstoppable force, and as the stories they love, they will leave a deserving family with a happy ending.

My sincere thanks to everyone for making an incredible difference in a family’s life. For when a family enters a Habitat For Humanity house, it’s more than mortar and wood, but a place where dreams exist, and a place where finally, they can call home.

God bless,

Diana Cosby, International Best-Selling Author

This is Eileen back with you. I’ve heard of Habitat For Humanity for years. It’s been around for 31 and an extremely worthwhile project to either volunteer for or donate to. President Jimmy Carter and his wife have helped raise awareness of the critical need for affordable housing that is simple, safe and affordable.

The Habitat for Humanity’s 31st annual Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project was held in Dallas-Fort Worth this year from October 5 through 11. The annual event brings together volunteers, dignitaries, donors and partner families.

You can donate to either a local Habitat such as in Grayson County, Texas or to the international organization. If you do donate to the international organization (HFHI) you are able to designate where you want the donation to be used. If you don’t, the gift is used where it’s most needed and for administrative expenses. HFHI is completely transparent and their most recent audited financial statement is available online.

Some of you may be interested in starting a group of concerned citizens for this type of shelter closer to where you live. It takes a community of people interested in making a difference. You would need to research the local affordable housing needs and its resources and consider the potential success of Habitat’s self-help model locally. Application would need to be sent HFHI to become an official Habitat affiliate.

If you are interested in eliminating poverty housing in your community, please contact HFHI headquarters for information on establishing a Habitat affiliate. Persons calling from inside the United States can call (800)HABITAT — (800) 422-4828. Those calling from outside the United States may contact HFHI headquarters at 01-(229) 924-6935.

I am a lover of books, both reading and writing. 2018 marks the beginning of my own journey from writer to published author. This blog will showcase various authors' thoughts on the elements of novel crafting, and my attempts to find my voice in writing. While journaling this journey, I hope to encourage others to follow their dreams. Book reviews continue as I have the last four years, only making time for my new pursuits.

My sincere thanks for having me as a guest today to talk about one of my favorite charities, Habitat For Humanity, and my humble thanks for sharing the Diana Cosby’s Romance Readers Build A Habitat For Humanity Home fundraiser. I encourage anyone who is interested in this wonderful charity to learn more and to volunteer. Don’t worry if you’re not a professional, you will work alongside amazing people who will train you for the task that will be completed that day on the home build. To date, I’ve painted, hung drywall, used a router, hung siding and more! And, the new home owners will be working with you on the home as well. Best, in the end a deserving family will receive a home! I wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season!

  2. I’m so pleased to help Diana share this particular passion of hers. Volunteering doesn’t have to be a physical volunteering, either. Some of us don’t have the physical energy or time to do the work, but if you feel this a worthwhile cause, certainly donating money is in line with giving back we all desire to do. What better time than the month of Thanksgiving?

In a few days, Diana will join us again sharing and talking about her first series, the MacGruders. I curled up last night, after the trick or treaters with the third book in the series, His Woman. (She’s already held me captive!) Anyone want some skittles? Our neighborhood didn’t have many kiddos stopping.

🙂 I agree, there are so many worthy causes, and each of us can make a difference if we choose. I hope you’re enjoying Duncan and Isabel’s story. A note: In my original draft, I didn’t like the ending, so I deleted the last half of the book and rewrote it to what you have today. I’m good on the candy front – thanks! My sincere thanks again for having me as a guest on your blog, I appreciate everything. Have a fabulous day!
